Quick Check In

We got up and went to church this morning. I thought Bert was acting oddly distant and I called him on it when we got in the car to drive home. He said he didn’t mean to … He just wasn’t feeling well. I laid down for a nap and got up up at 4:00 to make Pumpkin Crunch. I was checking the computer, before heading into the kitchen, when Bert came in and told me something was wrong. His speech was very slurred although he had no other symptoms. I suspected mini-stroke even though this was different than previous episodes.

We came to Saint Francis Hospital ER where they took his condition very seriously, took him straight back, and ran a number of tests. One looks as though his left carotid artery is blocked. Also his blood pressure is very high. It got to about 240/118. So he was admitted for observation and further testing. We should know tomorrow whether or not he needs surgery. Tonight won’t be too restful as they have to check his blood pressure hourly.

He is very frustrated by this set back. He also saw some improvement in his speech earlier but when his blood pressure spiked … His speech slurred again. He is understandably worried that it might be permanent.

I called Erica and she came up to see us and bring me an Arby’s sandwich since I hadn’t eaten today … Unless you want to count a Coke Zero and 5 or 6 candy corns.

Josiah brought chargers for our phones and my iPad, Bert’s mini laptop, pajamas, and my meds and lotion.

He’s settling in to sleep now and I will follow, on the not so comfy couch, soon. We’ve been forewarned about a scheduled blood test between 3 and 4 a.m.

I will keep you posted. We would appreciate your prayers!
