On my Facebook news feed this morning, among posts about storm damage, bump reports, and banana muffins, there was this cute image:
I’m not sure why I was of the “not in front of the kids” personality. Sigh. Hubby definitely wasn’t! He used to come up behind me in the kitchen to nuzzle my neck, squeeze the girls, or wiggle his hips against mine. He’d tell me that he was “just playing.” And I would usually blush, push him away, and tell him to “be good.” His standard reply was that he was being good! In retrospect, I can see that he was being good. I wasn’t …
As we work our way back towards each other these days, I long to be touched, caressed, held, kissed. I think I said no too many times though and it is taking a while for him to be willing to risk it again. He gives me quick kisses, and I appreciate them, but they don’t make my foot pop! (Probably a good thing since I am continuing to have balance issues!) I’m not sure how long it has been since he wanted to “just play.” A long time. And that makes me sad.
We were watching a sappy Hallmark movie together in the living room the other night and he got up to go to the kitchen. As he walked by me, stretched out in my recliner, he squeezed my bare toes. My heart nearly burst with joy!
We have fallen so far from who we used to be. Some of that is maturity and wisdom. I have no desire to make love in a campground shower, a lake, or the back seat of a car these days. But I do want to hold hands as we walk, to kiss like we mean it, and maybe even to be squeezed in the kitchen!
If you are young, busy, overwhelmed, tempted to swat him away until later … don’t! Not just because seeing romance between their parents is good for kids, although it is, but because your husband needs that positive response from you. And because if you resist him now … you will regret it later!

We’ll have to talk more one of these days, Joni! I know you are one of my mom’s favorite people! I’m a little swamped at the moment, working one job and training for another in addition to finding time for everything else that needs to get done so I’m not making around as much of the blog world as I would wish. Things will settle down eventually!

Beth, enjoying your “masterpieces” although I don’t always comment. Happy to see that you and your husband are rekindling the romance in your lives. My husband and I just thought we were getting old…had lost the desires we once had. But we started dieting and exercising and he has lost 60 pounds since July…and myself- 25. Needless to say, it has put youth and vigor and wonderful passion back into our lives. I know everyone can’t follow a new regimen for health and physical reasons, but for those readers out there who can…it’s worth every drop of sweat and ounce of willpower! We feel like kids again!
I know it can make a huge difference. Back when I lost 200 pounds I got in touch with my inner tiger! =) She’s in her cage again for now but we may break her free one of these days!

This is a great reminder — and I needed it a bit too. I don’t always say “later”, but sometimes when I am running down all the things I “need to get done”, I am not receptive to playing. But it’s probably his way of trying to calm me and offer support, but in the moment of such busy I don’t respond. And I should…..because it would probably calm me down in those moments.
And it always seems to happen when I am in the kitchen preparing food.
hhhmmmm……maybe it’s the food? LOL

It could be. Lord knows those men seem to get downright frisky when mama’s in the kitchen! I’m so glad that several of you commented and said you liked this post. I was afraid I might have crossed a line or two in that last paragraph! =) Love you, Les! Pray for me this week. Still fighting a respiratory virus, working, and taking a 20 hr/week course so I can pick up another client. In addition to the classroom time we have about 2 hours a night of homework. Not leaving a whole lot of spare time and the virus is making me feel awful! I have arranged for a guy to come work on winterizing my yard tomorrow. Sent him a text message tonight and said that if his sister wants to come with him … I would pay her to do some house work. My wallet hopes she declines but the help would be so awesome! I asked Erica a few weeks ago and she said yes but hasn’t made it yet. Frustrating but I’m trying to limit my expectations.

And I came back today and read it again….because I knew I needed the reminder.
Thank you for sharing your heart on this. It is important to make that time, to make it work, and to not put it off until later.
